What is Music Heals Malawi?

In 2019, Patti had a serious wound that needed Urgent care in Malawi .Patti’s experience of being in two private Malawian hospitals and receiving wound care with no freezing, not because she didn't ask for it or but because it simply was not available has brought us to a new movement beyond our ever-present fight for Gender Equity.
From that Lady Pace and Patti thought about how music could help both in the hospital and also how there could be a career track for musicians.

Music Heals Malawi will introduce and integrate music and the role of music therapy as a critical and essential non pharmacologic method of pain management relief in Malawian hospitals.

1)We propose to invite four professional music therapists to Malawi to do the following:
-
To Introduce and demonstrate the effectiveness of professional music therapy in reducing pain in hospital settings with emphasis in the pediatric and cancer wards.
-
To train 4 musicians who aspire to train more formally as music therapists in specific techniques and tools to continue the program and methods of pain relief the music therapists introduce during their three week internment.
2)Provide Lady Pace & Patti a salary with which they could oversee the continuation of an informal music therapy program initiated by the four professionally trained music therapists once they depart.
3) Provide Lady Pace and two additional Malawian’s with 4 year Music Therapy scholarships to the University of Capilano in Vancouver, British Columbia starting the fall of 2021.
